Maintenance Worker I
Campus: Boone/Lincoln Classified PG 2 Full-Time with benefits
Responsibilities: Maintains and cares for interior and exterior buildings and grounds. Operates hand tools, walk-behind equipment, small riding equipment, etc. Responsible for light maintenance including painting, preventative maintenance, all phases of janitorial work and grounds keeping operations and some HVAC System tasks. Adheres to established procedures, techniques, and safety requirements. Maintains campus security.
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and six months recent custodial/maintenance experience. Must be able to stand, walk, lift over 50 pounds, bend, stoop and climb daily for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to use and operate tools and equipment. Academic Support Specialist
Academic Success Specialist Part-time Up to 19 hours per week Grant-funded Position
Campus: Logan, Williamson, Wyoming/McDowell, and Boone Campus
Responsibilities: Provides academic assistance to assigned tutors, either in a group or individually. Establishes liaison with the instructor and works under the instructor’s direction to assist the student. Attends periodic training sessions given by staff members to increase competency in working with students. Maintains records on each student who is tutored, including follow-up and periodic assessment. Schedules tutoring appointments and provides evaluations and other reports as required by staff. Helps students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying and helps students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas. Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas with focus on Math & Science. Helps students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in math, science or engineering field. Preference will be given to those who experience teaching at the community college level. Must have the ability to effectively, communicate mathematics, reading and English concepts to students. Computer literate, and demonstrate ability to work effectively with students, peers and the public. Must be able to travel among campuses and other locations as needed. Part-time position limited to grant funding restrictions. Position will remain open until filled.
Student Services Specialist
Campus: Wyoming/McDowell Non-Classified Position with Benefits
Responsibilities: The Student Services Specialist is responsible for the facilitation of the admission and enrollment of students into higher education, providing students with basic information about the process of applying for financial aid, monitoring student academic progress and providing support in the collegiate environment that allows the student to persist to the point of reaching their unique academic goals. The student Services Specialist takes care of student needs as they occur on campus and at off-campus sites, whether that need is personal or academic. Responsible for developing varied structured programs, workshops, and seminars for campus delivery. May be responsible for college-wide coordination for one or more of the following grouping tasks: counseling and activities; recruitment and orientation; student disability services and ADA compliance; student placement and career services; testing and calendar of event; and adult services. Applicant will be advising student regarding academic programs, course selection, and institutional transfer. Counseling services to students and referral services, when necessary. Applicant will market the college and conduct appropriate recruiting activities to prospective students through correspondence college fair, relations with high schools, and ensuring Southern is represented at community functions and events.
Requirements: Broad knowledge of higher education philosophy and various processes, which include but are not limited to: admissions; enrollment; financial aid; transfer credit; career services; student orientation; and other areas of student support. Applicant must possess strong leadership skills, time management and organizational skills with attention to detail; demonstrate excellent skills in the area of: verbal and written communication; interpersonal relations; presentation; and team building. Requirements: Master’s Degree or higher in a science field. We prefer a candidate who can teach biological sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, and physics. Therefore, a master’s degree in one with significant coursework in one or more of the others is acceptable. We will also consider a candidate who is qualified in one or more of the above fields. Community college teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidate must be willing to develop and teach courses online. Computer skills using office production software is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional strategies is required. Instructor Communications Campus: Wyoming/McDowell
Responsibilities: Part-time instructor committed to community college students and their success to teach speech fundamentals course. Courses are taught primarily late afternoons and evening (M-Th), but other times can be arranged if available.

Recruitment and Outreach Specialist
Campus: Logan Non-Classified Position with Benefits
Responsibilities: Under supervision of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, establishes and administers programs for targeting recruitment of students in programs. Serves independently in the service region for management and accountability. Visit schools and makes presentations to groups and individuals. Coordinates recruitment efforts and serves as primary point of contact for the service region and internal coordination of participation in outreach activities. Serve as the primary recruiter for the College. Plan, support, and implement a student recruitment program designed to meet enrollment goals and improve strategies. Provide enrollment information services to internal and external students about admissions. Visit middle schools, high schools, vocational schools, employers, area agencies and outreach services for the purposes of admissions recruitment. Serve as liaison between the service region high schools and technical centers by developing a visitation/office schedule to be available to promote Southern to potential students. Coordinate on campus recruitment visits in conjunction with Student Services personnel including high school students, middle school students, parents, and targeted groups as determined each semester. Maintain established successful relationship with feeder high schools including recruitment of students, with a thorough understanding of high school document requirements. Coordinate high school recruitment activities with all high schools within Southern’s service region.
Provide and administer all correspondence, follow-up, registration and logistics for all high school college fairs, high schools, and outreach visits both in state and within the College’s regional area. Build relationships with high school officials, community groups, veteran assistance groups, in conjunction with the Student Services Specialists and Campus Deans in order to recruit students. Provide and administer early entrance registration and recruitment for all local high schools in the College’s service district, including Belfry and Sheldon Clark high schools in Pike and Martin counties in Kentucky. Assist with the recruitment of continuing education and distance education students including any new College programs involving continuing education and distance education courses and programs. Coordinate visits and recruitment with the College’s Workforce and Community Development Office. Identify target populations and develop marketing strategies.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Education or related field with a minimum of 2 years experience working with students in a student recruitment, counseling, or related field is required; or a Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Education or related field with a minimum of 1 year experience working with students in a student recruitment, counseling or related field. Candidates with an Associate’s degree with 5 plus years experience in counseling, customer relations, community relations, or related field will be considered. Public speaking experience required. Responsibilities: This position reports to the Vice President for Student Services, whose responsibilities require extensive contact with high level officials (both internal and external) and under general direction, works independently on matters of importance and sensitivity to the institution to perform and provide administrative secretarial services requiring the use of discretion and independent judgement and the possession of excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills. It involves frequent exposure to confidential issues with institution-wide impact and high level of freedom of action and independent judgement. The incumbent must be discreet and maintain confidentiality. Independent action is integral in supporting the Vice President for Student Services. This position must be kept abreast of current college procedures and policies, employee’s handbook, state travel regulations, and unit procedures since the incumbent disseminates information on a daily basis, attributing to the overall smooth operation of the Office of the Vice President for Student Services.
Requirements: This position deals daily with students, faculty, staff, administration, and/or community people. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, well organized, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent people skills, and have the ability to maintain confidentiality. A broad knowledge of office procedures is necessary. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required. Complies with all institutional policies and procedures. Office management experience is required; higher education background preferred. An Associate degree in the field of study of Office Administration, Office Information Technology, Executive Secretarial Science, or closely related field is required. Must have a current, unencumbered license as a registered professional nurse in the state of West Virginia or ability to obtain license in the state of West Virginia. Prior teaching experience in higher education preferred. Experience must be in the areas of direct patient care in medical/surgical, obstetrics, psychiatric nursing, pediatrics, and/or nursing education. Must be a team player with the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational ability. Must have current knowledge in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (preferably Microsoft Office) and willing to use technology. Responsibilities: Performs general accounting functions. Maintains assigned accounts. Prepares managerial and financial reports. Performs a variety of accounting transactions required in the maintenance of accounts. Makes payments to vendors using purchase card or invoice payment system. Summarizes reconciles, and balances accounts and compiles standard monthly departmental accounting reports.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. One year recent relevant experience preferred.
